The Ciao Baby Cucina promo started this week-end with the Giraffe entertaining the kids and jugs of BOS cocktails to sample.  The promo will run for another 3 week-ends, so if you are in the Monte Casino area on a Saturday or Sunday pop into Ciao Baby Cucina for some tasty BOS fun!

Bambanani is a great venue for kids and parents – there’s a giant sized jungle gym, sand art room, patisserie, movie room and dress up play area for the kids.

The kids really enjoyed the competition and we’ll be awarding the lucky winner a case of BOS.

They had been informed that the best place to spot these more erratic version of the Human species is in the tundras of Stellenbosch University and UCT.

They began their safari adventure on Wednesday, hitting Stellenbosch University during the midday feeding hour. These youths (subcategory: students) expressed their surprise and and wonder at these foreign visitors with typical human delight responses such as ‘laughing’, ‘pointing’ and chasing after the vehicle. The BOS Animals ended the Wednesday leg of their safari by driving by the infamous Paul Roos Gymnasium where they were lucky enough to witness a stampede of ‘young boys’ (some even tried to attack the vehicle!)

The next day proved to be even more eventful. The BOS Animals took a safari through UCT. The students there proved to me more wild and excited to see the BOS Animals arrive onto their territory. After taking a short walking tour on the densely populated ‘Jammie Plaza’ Leopard made the catastrophic mistake of feeding the Humans. A frantic mob ensued with the students all trying to snatch BOS Ice Tea from the bewildered Animals!

“They just all looked so thirsty! How was I to know that students would absolutely love BOS Ice Tea?? It was as if they had never before tasted anything so good!” Leopard wailed afterwards.

All in all though the BOS Animals were thrilled with their BOS Safari Adventure and expressed a desire to check out the wildlife further inland, Gauteng perhaps…

UCT and Wits are having their O-week this week. First year’s are swarming the campuses: registering, getting to to know the grounds and their peers, signing up for societies and partying hard. BOS has gotten on board with two very different student organisations at the 2 universities: The Voice of Wits (VOW 90.5fm) radio station and UCT’s Green Campus Initiative.

Gravelocity was revived at WITS O-Week by VOW 90.5fm and BOS had a stand in their Beer Garden making BOS + SoCo cocktails.

The Green Campus Initiative aim to bring sustainability awareness and to make UCT a more environmentally-friendly institution. They sold BOS at their stand as a healthy, organic drink offering to all the students on Jammie Plaza.

Kwazulu Natal all-boy schools Hilton, Michael House and St. Charles were treated to a fun break surprise by the lovely BOS zebras who brought some added fun and ice cold refreshment to their school day.

Up the Creek 2012  (this past weekend 2 – 5 February) was once again a rocking success! It was our second year as sponsors and were joyfully reminded why we keep coming back – the crowd is vibrant, intimate, the music fantastic and the location is out-of-this-world! It feels as though you are at a large family gathering (in which top S.A. bands happen to be playing at and everyone hangs out rivers on inflatable dolphins – you know, those types of family gatherings). Set on the banks of the mighty Breede River near Swellendam, we experienced 4 days of fun, heat, swimming, music and BOS!

UTC featured an awesome line up on three stages: The Bacardi main stage, MK River Stage and the BOS Late Night bar stage. Only one stage runs at a time, so you don’t miss any of the acts on offer. You can frolic in the river during the day and then move up to main stage for the night. This year’s line-up included top artists aKing, Jeremy Loops, Shadowclub, Hot Water, Holiday Murray, Peachy Keen, City Bowl Mizers, and Taxi Violence to name but a few. This year UTC even had an international act, KONGOS.

BOS Float your Boat
Following the splashing, singing, howling success of last year’s float competition, the benchmark was set.  We once again sponsored the Anything that Floats competition and people totally out BOSSified last year’s entries.

The 2012 winners are:

3) Most people on a float: 21!!

After Anything that Floats UTC held a wedding reception for Blues Broers band member Rob Nagel who married his long-time partner Maggie Frost (mother of fellow Blues Broer Albert Frost.)
A band played the wedding march as Maggie Frost crossed the river to join Rob who was waiting for her on the riverbank who were then married by fellow musician Piet Botha followed by a Tchaikovsky ballet performance in drag.

It was a whirlwind 4 days and we have come back to Cape Town exhausted, uplifted, 7 skin shades darker and counting down the days to UTC 2013!

The Garden Route was the place to be this last December with thousands of people flocking to the beautiful shores for their Summer holidays. BOS took Plett and Knysna by storm! We were involved in daily activations in and around the beaches, at events and festivals and had a BOS bar set up at the Beacon Isle Hotel. Here are some of our highlights:

Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge

The Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge has established itself as the biggest sporting event on the Plettenberg Bay’s Event Calendar. The eighth annual event was lauded a great success as top international sport stars, holidaymakers and local athletes competed in the multidisciplinary competition in Plettenberg Bay on 28 and 29 December 2011.

The Challenge drew close to 3000 participants to compete in 2 days of sport and fun for the whole family. Established in 2003 by Tony and Suzy Lubner in memory of their daughter Sabrina, who died at age six from complications of a rare bone disorder, the foundation supports children and families living with physical disabilities in the Bitou region.

International sport stars included: Olympic paddler and Plettenberg Bay local Michele Eray, Comrades Marathon legend Bruce Fordyce, Olympic Paralympic Swimmer Natalie du Toit.

Knysna Rocks

Knysna Rocks Music Festival returned to the Gadren Route by popular demand and boasted some of South Africa’s top local bands – artists including Johnny Clegg, Prime Circle and Die Heuwels Fantasties, with newer kids on the block Elvis Blue and Holiday Murray. The festivities took place on the 23 December at the Knysna Sports Grounds followed by the Knysna Rocks after party.

Goldfish Beach Concert

Local boys and international superstar duo Goldfish pulled out all the stops in a free beach concert on Robberg Beach in Plettenberg Bay. Goldfish have been long time fans of BOS and we are huge fans of theirs!

This last week saw the 8th annual Wavescape Film Festival running from the Friday 9th – 19th December. Screenings started with a massive outdoor screening at Clifton fourth, then the Brass Bell Pub in Kalk Bay and then the Labia theatre.

The Festival started with the annual Wavescape Charity Art Auction on the Thursday 8 Dec. Twelve surfboards brought in a record R221 000 at the Field Office restaurant in Cape Town.

Proceeds of the event go to ocean charities, NSRI and Shark Spotters, as well as AIDS awareness organisation, Isiqalo Foundation, which offers a ‘Waves for Change’ surfing programme.

Auctioneer Mark Sampson was in top comedic form, and his abrasive technique helped boost Brett Murray’s provocative board labelled “Forward Comrades” beneath a Johnny Walker logo in gold-leaf on black to the highest single amount for a surfboard: R41 000.

The 2011 edition of the festival, mixed the world’s most exciting surf films with a smattering of extreme adventure and environmental content. There are 23 films, from big wave surfing, MMA fighting, snowboarding, the next evolution in high performance surfing, bodysurfing, body boarding, wakeboarding, MTB stunts, and wing suit BASE jumping. Wavescape will also screen a record number of South African-made films: The Africa Project, Afrika, Tropical Roast, Contrast, Hooked, Leaping Louse 2011, Into the Light and Stone Rolling.

The world premiere of Surfing and Sharks – The Movie produced by Wavescape’s Chris Mason, for the festival, and stars SA’s free-surf star Andrew “Roosta” Lange.

The opening screening on Clifton 4^th premiered ‘Thirty Thousand’, about an epic journey by two Aussie twins who travel the entire west coast of Africa on a mammoth trek to surf unexplored waves in Morocco, Senegal, Liberia, Angola, Namibia and South Africa. This won best music soundtrack at the New York Surf Film Festival.

Rage kicked off last week of November and went on for almost 14 days into early December.  The theme of the two weeks is beach, sun and party party party!

BOS Ice Tea, always wanting to be where the fun is at, brought some BOSsification the Ballito and Umghlanga Rage being the official daytime drink of Rage! The BOSsewa was pumping in the Chill Zone of RAGE VILLAGE in Ballito and in Umhlanga BOS sponsored 2 of the detour Points of ‘Blackberry’s ‘Amazing Race’ competition -  with a BOS Volleyball challenge and a BOSsewa challenge.

BOS also had stands at the Umhlanga Sands and La Montagne Hotels and constant beach activations!

We were super excited to discover we were trending when some created and started circulation an ‘like a BOS’ image in homage to the intensely popular Saturday Night Live sketch!

During Mo-vember (the month formerly known as November) men all over the world are growing moustaches to raise awareness for Men’s Health Issues. Movember started in Australia and has now made its way all the way around the world (the long way round that is!), to South Africa. By growing moustaches in the month of Movember we are able to raise awareness and funds in aid of Men’s Health and Cancer.

In South Africa, Movember has partnered with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and together, are raising funds in aid of Prostate and Testicular Cancers. Both these cancers are very treatable if detected early.

Go Bowling fore Movember is a fun initiative which organises a lawn bowls competition in obligatory fancy dress (teams have to dress according to their mo) as well as Charity Auction.

In its fourth year, Go Bowling for Movember, was hosted at the Kelvin Grove Club on the Sunday 27th Movember. Corne & Twakkie, who were a part of the BOStardo’s Bowls team, also hosted the amazing hair raising Charity Auction. BOS sponsored a dance off with amazing prizes –

Overall Go Bowling for Movember raised a WHOPPING R115 460 for CANSA! Who said charity can’t be super fun?
